"A Moment in the 1940s" is a gouache by American artist Nicholas Riley (1900-1944), dated 1940. The work depicts a domestic interior scene with three figures a woman in an apron and two men hanging Christmas lights at a window with a Christmas tree in the lower right, in warm amber and muted brown tones. Measures 20 x 12 inches; signed upper left, inscribed "To Sara- With Thanks 'Nick'" bottom center.
