By The Museum is a gelatin silver print from On the Acropolis, a portfolio of 25 photographs by Tod Papageorge made on the Athenian Acropolis in the summers of 1983 and 1984. The image depicts two figures seen from behind — a woman in a backless white dress reaching up to adjust her straw hat — looking out toward a long line of tourists filing up steps past scattered marble fragments, cypress trees rising above a stone wall, and a museum building in the right background. Signed, titled, numbered and dated in pencil on verso.
