Maria Cano is a screenprint on Arches by Colombian artist Virginia Amaya, from the Graficario de la Lucha Popular en Colombia -- a 1977 portfolio of 32 works by 32 Colombian artists aimed at bearing witness to popular struggle and effecting social change, with proceeds from sales supporting the Colombian Communist Party. The print depicts a close-up portrait of a woman's face with large eyes looking directly at the viewer and wild hair filling the upper portion of the composition, emerging from a near-total black ground. Signed, titled, numbered and dated in pencil.
