The Couples with Floodlights is a gelatin silver print from On the Acropolis, a portfolio of 25 photographs by Tod Papageorge made on the Athenian Acropolis in the summers of 1983 and 1984. The image depicts a bank of theatrical floodlights — rows of large circular lenses — filling the lower foreground, while four tourists stand atop the ancient Acropolis wall behind them, looking out over the hazy sprawl of Athens below. Signed, titled, numbered and dated in pencil on verso.
