View of Athens is a gelatin silver print from On the Acropolis, a portfolio of 25 photographs by Tod Papageorge made on the Athenian Acropolis in the summers of 1983 and 1984. The image depicts a panoramic view from the edge of the Acropolis plateau, looking out across a wide field of scattered marble fragments — column drums, upright stumps, broken blocks — toward the dense urban grid of Athens dissolving into haze beneath distant mountains. Signed, titled, numbered and dated in pencil on verso.
