Ashkelon XI is a C-print from the Ashkelon Portfolio, a series of 20 photographs by Stephen Shore (b. 1947) made at the ancient archaeological site of Ashkelon, Israel in 1994, printed at Laumont Photographics in 2006. The image presents a view of the ancient coastal city of Ashkelon in southern Israel, the eleventh in Shore's twenty-part series — ruins and Mediterranean landscape composed in Shore's lucid black-and-white, the image building the portfolio's ongoing portrait of this layered archaeological site.
