Ashkelon XIX is a C-print from the Ashkelon Portfolio, a series of 20 photographs by Stephen Shore (b. 1947) made at the ancient archaeological site of Ashkelon, Israel in 1994, printed at Laumont Photographics in 2006. The image presents a view of the ancient coastal city of Ashkelon in southern Israel, its archaeological ruins and Mediterranean landscape rendered in Shore's characteristically clear black-and-white, the light and topography of the site observed with the same precise attention he brought to the American landscape.
