This bronze sculpture of French writer Honoré de Balzac is a posthumous cast from the original plasters modeled by Auguste Rodin in the early 1890s. After Balzac's death, the Société des Gens de Lettres commissioned Rodin to create a sculpture in his honor. Stamp signed "A. Rodin" on the base.
