Sybil Kleinrock's work straddles the borders between expressionism and surrealism. Colorful and soft pastels play together to suggest a composition that can be interpreted as both a representation of a landscape or as entirely nothing at all. Do the Xs mark the spot at the top? Does the blue gash running diagonally through the whole work represent a wall? Is the pink ground lined with neat rows of purple rocks and orange plants swaying in a breeze? Or is devoid of meaning?
