The most common motif depicted by Philippe Alfieri is the clown or harlequin. Often posed for a portrait but regularly also seen paused between moments of action, Alfieri's harlequins are somber and reflective, straddling between the joyous nature of their role and the depressing nature they are so regularly depicted in contemporary media. This oil painting is nicely framed in gold and signed by the artist on the lower right.
