Ashkelon I is a C-print from the Ashkelon Portfolio, a series of 20 photographs by Stephen Shore (b. 1947) made at the ancient archaeological site of Ashkelon, Israel in 1994, printed at Laumont Photographics in 2006. The image presents an opening view of the ancient coastal city of Ashkelon in southern Israel, its ruins and landscape introduced in Shore's precise black-and-white, the first image in the series establishing the site's topography and light as the visual subject.
