Ashkelon XIII is a C-print from the Ashkelon Portfolio, a series of 20 photographs by Stephen Shore (b. 1947) made at the ancient archaeological site of Ashkelon, Israel in 1994, printed at Laumont Photographics in 2006. The image presents a view of the ancient coastal city of Ashkelon in southern Israel, the thirteenth in Shore's twenty-part series — archaeological landscape and Mediterranean atmosphere captured in Shore's characteristic black-and-white, the image as specific to its place as any in his American oeuvre.
