Ashkelon XV is a C-print from the Ashkelon Portfolio, a series of 20 photographs by Stephen Shore (b. 1947) made at the ancient archaeological site of Ashkelon, Israel in 1994, printed at Laumont Photographics in 2006. The image presents a view of the ancient coastal city of Ashkelon in southern Israel, its archaeological ruins and Mediterranean landscape captured in Shore's precise black-and-white, the geometry of excavated forms and open sky composing the frame with the clarity of his wider documentary practice.
