By the Side of the Field is a C-print from Hudson Valley Renegades: Summer League Baseball, a portfolio of 25 photographs by Stephen Shore (b. 1947) made at Dutchess Stadium in 2001 and printed at Laumont Photographics by Kylie Wright under Shore's supervision. The image captures figures at the field's margin — a moment of stillness beside the playing surface, the grass and markings of the diamond extending into the frame in summer light.
