Roy Lichtenstein's rendering of a deep-sea diver is a very early example of the artist's work and reflects the influence of Cubism that was present towards the beginning of his career. Prior to developing the Pop Art style that mimicked the aesthetics of comic books, Lichtenstein took cues from prior Modern movements, such as Cubism, Futurism, and Art Deco. This piece will be included in the forthcoming Catalogue Raisonne for Lichtenstein paintings and sculpture edited by Jack Cowart, PhD for the Lichtenstein Foundation. It can currently be found on their online catalogue.
