El Primer Incendio is a screenprint on Arches by Colombian artist Gustavo Zalamea (b. 1951), from the Graficario de la Lucha Popular en Colombia -- a 1977 portfolio of 32 works by 32 Colombian artists organized by the Prografica Workshop in Cali to bear witness to popular struggles, with proceeds directed to the Colombian Communist Party. The print combines a distorted mechanical figure, fragments of a newspaper page from "El Tiempo" dated June 19, 1977, and a cityscape engulfed in flames in the background, in dark tones of black, brown, and blue. Signed, titled, numbered and dated in pencil.
