Marc Chagall (Russian/French, 1887-1985), took a trip in 1931 to the Holy Land, which shook his perspective, spiritually and creatively. In 1960 he created Drawings from the Bible, consisting of 24 color lithographs illustrative carious scenes from the Bible. This lithograph shows the Persian King Ahasuerus banishing his wife Vashti for her refusal to come to the King's banquet to show off her beauty. Esther was chosen to succeed her as queen.
