Figure in Rotation

Regular price $450,000.00 Sale

Max Weber was a major proponent of Modernism in his paintings and sculpture. He explored Cubism, Futurism and Abstraction in his art. "Figure in Rotation" reflects Weber's firsthand knowledge of the work of Pablo Picasso and Henri Matisse, which he had seen in Paris when he studied there from 1905 to 1908. The nude's twisted torso and exaggerated, asymmetrical facial features are typical Cubist distortions which also appear in his contemporaneous paintings. The stylized, mask-like face also indicates Weber's interest at the time in African and Oceanic art. Signature inscribed and Roman Bronze Works Foundry stamp on base.
