Gathered around the entrance of a pueblo, several Native American men on horseback donning bandanas and carrying weapons meet with several white pioneers to warn them against further intrusion. Leaning against a pitchfork with his children and other armed men behind him, the white pioneer appears to reluctantly accept the warning, an undoubtedly common scene throughout the American West until the 20th century.
